VIRTUES OF THE MONTH Rabee ‘ul Awwal

Please my beloved readers, refer to Vol. 2 No. 3 for the virtues of this wonderful month. Please call or write to us if you did not file this issue. May we suggest that you file all your back issues for ready reference as each month does have virtues you would not want to miss.

Precious jewels of my eyes, this is a very beautiful month also because on the 12th of day of this blessed month was sent to this world by Allaah the Most Compassionate, a human being the like of which the world had never ever seen before, His own beloved Hadrat Muhammad bin ‘Abdullaah, Sayyidul Mursileen, Afdal ul Ambiaa, the manifest light (Noor ul Mubeen) who would lead the world from the darkness of ignorance to glories of enlightenment of the True Guidance from the very Source of Life and Absolute Truth, the Lord of the Universe Himself. The crown of honour of completion and perfection of this enlightenment for all humanity to come till the Day of Judgment, as testified by our Lord the Creator in His Quraan ul Majeed, was to be placed upon the blessed head of the last of the series of truly great human beings that were graciously sent by their Lord to guide humanity to the straight path, the path of willing submission to their Lord and Master, His Own beloved who He named “Rahmat ul lil ‘Aalameen” (Mercy for the worlds)

His coming is not only an invaluable gift of mercy to the world, but to the entire universe!

Allaah  the Lord of Mercy has among many beautiful things, this to say about his Own beloved – – – :-

Translation: “We sent you (O Muhammad ) not but as a mercy to the ‘Aalameen (The worlds, the universe, His entire creation)”. Soorah21 Aayah 107

Translation: And you (O Muhammad ) stand on an exalted (The greatest) standard of character (Manners, and

Conduct ). Soorah 68 Aayah 4.

Translation: “You have indeed in the Messenger of Allaah, a beautiful model of (conduct) for anyone whose hope is in Allaah and the Final Day and who engages much in the praise of Allaah” Soorah33 Aayah 21.

Allaah when reminding us about his innumerous favors says in the Holy Quraan (Soorah 18 Aayah 109)

Translation: Say (O Muhammad () if the ocean were ink (with which to write out) the words of my Lord (Praises, signs, favors, mercy) sooner would the ocean be exhausted than would the words of my Lord, even if were added another ocean like it for its aid.”

My beloved soul mates, is there a favour or mercy that Allaah the most Merciful could have bestowed upon us all greater than the gift to us of Muhammad ? According the above Aayah of our Merciful Lord, it is really not possible for us to thank Him adequately for this His greatest favor. However Allaah  in Soorah 14 Aayah 7 commands us :

“And remember! your Lord caused to be declared (publicly): ‘If you are grateful I will add more (favors) unto you; but if you show ingratitude truly My punishment is terrible indeed.”

The above Aayah has a specific context, yet the principle is applicable to all His favors and for all times (Allaah and His beloved know best). Therefore, inadequate though the expression of our gratitude towards His Generosity will be, however we must give thanks profusely for the His greatest blessing to us as well as all other favors. He plainly warns us about His terrible punishment if we fail to do so.

In what manner are we to praise Him for His bounties? In Soorah 93 Aayah 11 Allaah commands His beloved  and of course through him us also:

Translation: ” Therefore of the bounty of your Lord rehearse and proclaim”.

My most precious and beloved readers, there is one word in the dictionary which meets all the commands laid down by Lord Almighty in the above quoted Aayahs, for us to respond to and express ourselves at His wonderful blessings and gifts He bestows upon us, especially a gift like His beloved, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad

; the word has the following meanings: Rejoice, Extol, Praise, Make widely known, Display, Acclaim, Eulogize and Honor. And that word is “Celebrate”! My beloved soul mates, I sincerely believe that no amount of celebration is enough to express our sincere gratitude to our Most Merciful Lord for His gift to us of the Rasoolallaah , a gift which is so precious that it is beyond any description. However I would like to pass on a word of caution to all of us: Our Lord Almighty ordained fasting in the month of Ramadaan ul Mubaarak so that we may learn Taqwaa (Increased awareness of Allaah ). This does not mean though that the rest of the year we should give up Taqwaa. Similarly, although in the blessed month of Rabee’ ul Awwal and its blessed 12th day, because of the deep sense of its importance, it is necessary to celebrate it appropriately as mandated by Allaah , the objective should be to use the memory of this greatest of all occasions to renew and revitalize our appreciation for all His bounties and to realize that the only way to give it expression is to commit ourselves sincerely to conform our lives according to the Sunnah of His beloved throughout the year and throughout our lives. To this humble pinch of dust, this commitment is the most significant and sincere ingredient of the celebration of this blessed month and its blessed 12th day. Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.

BACK TO BASICS

The Account of “Qiyaamah”(The Day of Judgment), Portent, continued

23. Yaajooj and Maajooj will make their appearance after the muslims leave for the Mount Sinai. They would be in such a large number that when their first group will cross the Lake Tabriyah (Tiberias) and drink its water the lake, which will be 10 miles long, will dry up to such a degree that the 2nd group to follow them will say that there never was any water there! When they would finish their plundering and killing in the world, they will say: We have killed all in the world, let us kill those in the skies. They will shoot arrows at the sky and the Power of Allaah will make their arrows blood soaked. They will be busy with their activities and Hadrat ‘Eesaa will be confined with his companions in the hills till the head of a cow will be dearer than hundred Deenaars (gold coins). Hadrat ‘Eesaa will then make du’aa along with his companions and Allaah will create certain kind of insects within their(Yaajooj and Maajooj) necks and they will all die instantaneously. After their deaths, Hadrat ‘Eesaa will come down from the hills along with his companions to find the entire earth littered with dead bodies full of stench and not one hand span without them. Hadrat ‘Eesaa will once again make du’aa with his companions and Allaah will send a special kind of birds who will pick the bodies and throw them where ever Allaah will command them to do so. Muslims will burn the bows and arrows for 7 years. Then the rain will fall and rejuvenate the earth and the earth will be commanded to produce fruits and bring forth its blessings. The sky will be commanded to pour down its blessings. The result will be that one pomegranate will be eaten by one whole group and ten people will be able to sit under the shade of its peel. The barakah (Blessing) of milk will be such that the milk of one she camel will be sufficient for one whole jama’ah; the milk of one cow will suffice one tribe and the milk of one goat enough for one family.

24. Smoke will make its appearance because of which the earth and the sky will become dark.

25. Daabat ul Ard (A four legged land animal ) will appear. This is an animal which will have the staff of Hadrat Moosaa and the ring of Hadrat Sulaimaan . It will make a sign of noor on the foreheads of all the muslims with the staff and stamp a black mark on the forehead of every kaafir with the ring. This is the time when the muslims and kuffaar will be openly distinguishable. This sign will never change: a kaafir will never accept the true eemaan and the muslim will always be steadfast on his eemaan.

26. When the sign of the sun rising from the west will appear the door of taubah (Repentance) will close. Islaam accepted at that time will be unreliable.

27. After the elapse of a period following the demise of ‘Eesaa  when only 40 days will remain for the Day of Qiyaamah to commence, a scented cool breeze will start to blow and will pass under the arm pits of people. Its effect will be that the souls of the muslims will be extracted and only the kuffaar will remain. Qiyaamah will then commence.

The above are some of the signs of Qiyaamah; some have already appeared and some are yet to appear. When all the signs are completed and the scented cool breeze will pass under the arm pits of the muslims and they are all dead, during the 40 years after this event, no children will be born; which would mean there will be no one younger than 40 years; only kuffaar will inhabit the earth, no one will remain to take the name “Allaah”. Some will be busy plastering ( Like sheet rocking in the USA) the walls, some eating food; in brief people will be busy in their chores when suddenly Hadrat Israafeel will receive the command to blow the Soor (Trumpet). Initially its sound will be very faint but gradually it will become louder. People will listen closely and will fall down unconscious and die. The heavens, the earth, the mountains and also the Soor, Israafeel and all other angels will be destroyed. There will be none alive at that time but the One and Only Allaah the Almighty. He will then say: “Limanil Mulkul Yaum”. Translation: Whose is the Kingship today? (Where are the oppressors, the arrogant) Of course who would be there to answer? He Himself will say: “Lillaahil Waahidil Qahhaar “ Translation: Only (that of) Allaah the One and Only the ever Dominating One. Then when He decides He will bring Israafeel and the Soorto life again. Command will be given to blow the Soor again. As soon as it is blown, all the angels, first and the last human beings, jinns and animals will come to life again. The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad will be the first to come out of his blessed grave in such a manner that in his right hand will be the hand of Hadrat Aboo Bakr, Siddeeq Akbar and in his left hand will be the hand of Hadrat ‘Umar, Farooq ‘Aazam . He will take along with him all those muslims who are buried in Mekkah Al Mu’azzamah and Madeenah Tayyibah to the Plain of Hashr (The Plain ofQiyaamah). Extracts taken from the book “Bahaar e Sharee’at” authored by Hadrat Maulaanaa Amjad ‘Ali (Rahmatullaah ‘Alaih). To be continued InshaAllaah Ta’alaa.

Note: The above account is based on references from the Holy Quraan (S18 A94 and S21 A96) as well as Saheeh Ahaadeeth Kareemah many of them in the collection of Saheeh Bukhaaree Shareef and Saheeh Muslim Shareef. My beloved readers, we have a Hadeeth Shareef narrated by An Nawwas ibn Sam’an in the Saheeh Muslim Shareef dealing at great length with the subject of the Dajjaal as well as the advent of the Yaajooj and Maajooj which could not be included here because of its length. However it is so interesting that we shall be happy to send it to any one who would like to receive it. Please call or write.

VIRTUES OF DU’AAS

Du’aa Katheer ul Barakah
(Du’aa for abundance of blessings)

Translation: “I recite the name of Allaah upon my life and upon my Deen. I recite the name of Allaah upon my relatives and upon my possessions and upon my children. I recite the name of Allaah upon the things He has bestowed upon me. Allaah , Allaah is my Lord, I do not associate any thing with Him as His partner. Allaah is the Greatest, Allaah is the Greatest, Allaah is the Greatest and He is the most Exalted and the most High and He is Greater than those things of whom I am afraid of and fend myself off. Your Protection is of Absolute Honor and full of Majesty is Your Praise and there is no god but You. Dearest Allaah, I seek your Protection from the harm of my ego and from all the rebellious devils and from every oppressive enemy. If they turn away, then say sufficient is for me Allaah , there is no god but He; I put my trust in Him and He is the Lord of the Majestic Throne; indeed my Guardian and Protector is Allaah Who sent the Book and it is He Who is the Protector of His righteous servants.” (Because of space restriction, transliteration has been omitted. Please call or write and we will gladly send it to you or please get it from our web site). The following Hadeeth Shareef is the basis for the above Du’aa:

Hadrat Anas was one day sitting in the company of Hadrat Hajaaj bin Yoosuf Saqafee who said to Hadrat Anas : “You have seen your Saahib (The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad ) had in his possession such horses and other resources of riches and luxuries?”Hadrat Anas replied: “I swear by Allaah that most certainly I have seen with the Messenger of Allaah things even better and I have heard him say: People keep 3 kinds of horses. One is the kind which are kept for jihaad fee sabeelillaah and for the punishment of the enemies of the Deen. The excrement, urine and meat, skin and blood (of such horses) will be weighed on the Yaum ul Qiyaamah. The second kind is the one which is kept for one’s needs and one rides them as one needs them. The third kind are the ones that are kept for ostentation so that people would look at them and say that such person has this number of horses. The abode of the person who keeps a horse with such intention will be in Hell. (Hadrat Anas continues) O Hajaaj (), your horses are of this very kind. Hadrat Hajaaj became very upset on hearing this and said: O Anas () had you not served the Messenger of Allaah, and had not the Ameer ul Mumineen, Hadrat ‘Abdul Malik bin Marwaan ()sent the letter of recommendation for you in which he has written about leniency with your condition, I would have done with you whatever I had wanted. Hadrat Anas said: I swear by Allaah () you cannot indeed do anything you want to with me and you cannot cast an evil eye towards me. Without doubt I have heard certain sayings from the Messenger of Allaah (). I am always under the protection of those sayings and because the virtue of these sayings, I am not afraid of the domination of any king nor of the evil of the shaitaan. Hadrat Hajaaj became fearful of the conversation and after a moment he raised his head and said: O Aboo Hamzah, teach me thosekalimaat (Sayings) also! Hadrat Anas said: I will never teach you those sayings because you are not fit for them. When the time came for Hadrat Anas to die, his servant Hadrat Aban , was standing by his head side. Hadrat Anas asked him what he wanted. Hadrat Aban pleaded: Those sayings (Of the beloved of AllaahHadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad ) which Hadrat Hajaaj was desirous of learning and you did not teach him. Hadrat Anas said: Yes! I will teach them to you as you are fit for them. (Then) he said: I served the Messenger of Allaah for 10 years and he left the world pleased with me. O Aban you have served me for 10 years and I am about to leave this world pleased with you. Recite these Kalimaat day and night; Allaah will protect you from all misfortunes. The Messenger of Allaah, made Hadrat Anas  (on the request of his mother), the chosen and privileged recipient of the aboveDu’aa for goodness of the world and the Hereafter. Allaah because of the virtue of this Du’aa bestowed abundant blessings in his age, riches and children. He lived to the age of more than 100 years, and had 100 children, 73 sons and grandsons and the rest were daughters. His garden used to produce twice a year(Instead of the usual once a year). These were the worldly blessings; what can one say about his blessings of the Hereafter. Hadrat Jamaaluddeen Siyootee Rahmatullaah ‘Alaih who is among the great ‘Ulamaa of Ahaadeeth Shareef. He has quoted this Hadeeth Shareef in his book “Jama’al Jawaami’ .

VIRTUES OF PURIFICATION (Tazkiatun Nafs) Continued

At Taubatu wal Astaghfaar

My beloved readers, you who are the jewels of my eyes, have so far received InshaAllaah Ta’alaa from the contents of our previous issues a very deep insight into the indispensable importance of Tazkiatun Nafs in relation to our success in the Hereafter. This importance relates to the very basic purpose of our creation and the possibility of our making it to Jannah. Allaah has made it very explicitly clear in his Quraan ul Majeed, after taking no less than 6 oaths (Regarding the importance, gravity and authenticity of the Truth He is about to reveal) He takes another oath (No. 7) in Aayah No. 7: “By the self and the proportion and order given to it”. 8. And the enlightenment as to its wrong and right. 9. Truly he succeeded that purifies it. 10. And he fails who corrupts it. Soorah 91.

By success it is meant success in the Hereafter, which is attainment of Paradise. We hope that we have all received by the taufeeq from Allaah the understanding from our previous issues that Dzikrullaah is one of the main ingredients of purifying the self. The second source of purification is At taubatu wal Istaghfaar (Repentance and seeking forgiveness) because according to a Hadeeth Shareef, no human being in existence has remained free from sin (Except the Prophets and Messengers who are protected byAllaah from sinning).

Hadrat Aboo Hurairah narrates that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: When a mumin sins, a black dot appears in his heart and then when he does taubah and astaghfaar his heart is cleansed (of the black spot). And when he sins more, the spot enlarges till it covers the entire heart. Hence this is the rust which Allaah has mentioned in the Holy Quraan thus: “Kallaa barRaana ‘Alaa quloobihim maa kaanoo yaksiboon” Translation:” By no means! But what they have earned is rust upon their hearts”.(Soorah83 Aayah14).Masnad Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal.

Hadrat Anas narrates that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad  has said: Hearts acquire rust as iron does and its cleansing is through astaghfaar. Rawaahut Tabaraani.

Hadrat ‘Auf bin Maalik  used to say: I know the taubah of every sin. He was asked: What is the taubah of this sin? He said : The sin which one abandons and never goes back to it.

Hadrat ‘Abdullaah bin Mas’ood  has narrated that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad  said: The one who does taubah from a sin becomes such(Clean) as if he had never committed the sin. Rawaahul Baihaqee, Sunanun Ibn Maajah.

My beloved friends, true repentance(Taubah) occurs when the sinner first of all realizes and admits to himself that he has indeed committed a sin and experiences an intense feeling of shame; and when these deep feelings include disappointment at the resulting displeasure of the One Who is the Most Compassionate, the One who created us, nourishes us, nurtures us, protects us and in Whose world we live and whose air we breathe and whose provision we consume; and when these feelings accompany the fear of His terrible punishment; and when there is that deep confidence in His attribute of Al Ghaffaar the One Who accepts our taubah and then when one turns to Him with tears of intense shame, then this turning is with a resolution never to commit that sin again. Hence my soul mates, True Taubah is the abandonment of the committed sin otherwise it means the sinner did not really consider the sin a sin and the Lord of Power his Lord!

May I remind us all that insistence upon even a minor sin makes it a major sin and insistence upon a major sin(Without seeking Taubah) is doomed to an encounter with the wrath of Allaah Al Qahhaar and His punishing destructive force and the anger of Allaah Al Muntaqim the Great Avenger who punishes those who persist in rebelliousness. I seek for myself and for the entire Ummah of the Messenger of Allaah, the protection of Allaah Al ‘Afoo, the Forgiver and the Eliminator of sins, from His wrath and punishment Ameen.

In the Holy Quraan, Soorah 4 Aayah 31, Allaah says: “If you abstain from the serious part (major sin) of what you have been forbidden (to do), We will remit from you your evil deeds and will admit you (to Paradise) with a noble entry“.

In Soorah 53 Part of Aayah 32, Allaah says: “Those who avoid the greatest sins and indecencies, except for oversights, (will find that) surely your Lord is ample in forgiveness”.

My beloved readers, it should be obvious that in order to succeed in the Hereafter(enter Paradise) tazkiatun nafs is essential and for this purification it is essential to avoid major sins and if unfortunately they are committed, immediately return to the Merciful Lord with repentance, seek His benign forgiveness and give up that sin. It is therefore essential for those of us who fear the Lord, seek His Pleasure and His Paradise seriously to understand what a Major Sin is. InshaAllaah we shall try to define it first and then go on to enumerate them, some in this issue and more in the next ones:

The Major Sins are those acts which have been forbidden by Allaah in the Holy Quraan and by His beloved Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad and which have been made clear by the actions of the first righteous generation of Muslims, the great companions (may Allaah be pleased with them all) of the Messenger of Allaah, . Hadrat Ibn ‘Abbaas  is of the opinion that there are seventy major sins. These include crimes which call for a prescribed punishment such as theft, fornication, adultery and murder; those prohibited acts for which a warning of a severe punishment in the Hereafter is given in the Holy Quraan and theAhaadeeth Kareemah as well as those deeds which have been cursed by the beloved of Allaah, .

Following is a list of 15 major sins, the rest will follow InshaAllaah Ta’alaa in our subsequent issues: 1. Shirk. Associating anything with the Divine attributes of Allaah 2.Murder 3. Practicing Magic 4. Not performing Salaat 5. Not paying Zakaah when eligible 6. Not fasting during Ramadaan without an excuse allowed in the Sharee’ah 7. Not performing Hajj, while being able to do so. 8. Disrespect of parents 9. Breaking off ties with relatives 10. Fornication and Adultery 11. Homosexuality 12. Interest, Riba 13. Wrongfully consuming the property of an orphan.

Extracts have taken from the book ” The Major Sins ‘Al Kabair ‘ by Muhammad bin ‘Uthman Adh – Dhahabi, rendered into English by Mohammed Moinuddin Siddiqui, Ph.D. To be continued InshaAllaah Ta’alaa.

VIRTUES OF ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE OF DEEN UL ISLAAM

It is mentioned in a Hadeeth Shareef that the worshippers (of Allaah ) will receive glasses full of the drink from the pond of Kauthar ( in the Hereafter) whereas to the Ahl ul ‘Ilm (the scholars) the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad will with his own blessed hands give them glasses full of the drink ofKauthar individually. Nuzhat ul Majaalis.

The most beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: The person who leaves his home with the intention of acquiring knowledge (of the Deen ul Islaam), the ants in their holes, the fish of the oceans and the animals of the land and the birds make astaghfaar for him. Nuzhat ul Majaalis.

The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad  has said: The ‘ilm which should be acquired for the pleasure of Allaah  (the Deen ul Islaam),if one acquires it for the riches of the world, will not (even) get a whiff of the perfume of Paradise. Ahmad, Aboo Dawood, Ibn Maajah.

Hadrat Aboo Hurairah once went to the bazaar and told the people: You are here and in the Masjid the Meeraath (Inheritance) of the RasoolAllaah is being distributed. On hearing this the people left the bazaar and went to the Masjid and then came back and told Hadrat Aboo Hurairah : We did not see any inheritance being distributed. He asked: What did you see? They replied: We saw a group of people who was busy with the Dzikr of Allaah and the recitation of the Holy Quraan and busy with the Ta’leem (Teaching) of the Deen. Hadrat Aboo Hurairah then said: That is the Meeraath of the RasoolAllaah . Tadzkirat ul Waa’izeen.

Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: The person Allaah intends to do good to, He makes him a Faqeehah of the Deen (an ‘Aalim) and I distribute and Allaah gives. Bukhaaree, Muslim.

Hadrat ‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood has said: Two greedy people are never satisfied, 1) Person of knowledge 2) Person of the Duniyaa (the world). However the two are not the same. The person of knowledge continues to receive increased pleasure of Allaah and the person of the Duniyaa continues to increase in his rebelliousness. Daarimee.

The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: Whoever acquires Knowledge so that he could compete with the ‘Ulamaa, quarrel with the ignorant and attract peoples’ attention towards himself, Allaah will send him to the Hell Fire. Tirmidzee, Ibn Maajah.

The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: To seek knowledge (of the Deen) is Fard (compulsory) for every muslim and the one who presents knowledge to the undeserving is as the one who places garlands of jewels, pearls and gold on the neck of a pig. Ibn Maajah.

The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: The one who has acquired one chapter of the knowledge of the Deen, that knowledge will profit him in the world and the Hereafter. Allaah will bestow upon him for his life of the world rewards equal to 7,000 years of daily fasts and night vigils of worship (every night), years whose worship were accepted (by Allaah ) and were without any evil. Mau’izata Hasanah.

Hadrat Aboo Umaamah Baahilee  has narrated that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: On the plain of Qiyaamah an ‘Aalim and an ‘Aabid (devout worshipper) will be brought . Allaah will command the ‘Aabid: Enter the Paradise. To the ‘Aalim will be said: You wait and intercede for the sinners. Tadzkiratul Waa’izeen.

My beloved readers, while acquiring college degrees, PhDs, MDs is fine and wonderful; however these are skills which give us a means of earning a living in this very temporal world. A balance on the other hand of acquiring equally impressive education of the Deen ul Islaam is so much more rewarding in our Eternal life, as the material presented above has so poignantly illustrated. Is not the best interest of our children as well as ourselves served in encouraging them and ourselves to keep a wise balance as the minimum? If the children show the slightest interest in devoting their lives to acquiring the highest education in the area of our Deen and then while practicing it at the highest level themselves also impart it to others, should this most honorable interest not be encouraged and enthusiastically supported? Such an action will most certainly find a high place in the esteem and pleasure of our Most Merciful Lord. Please ponder my beloved soul mates: the sleep of an ‘Aalim of the Deen is superior to the qiaam ul lail (night vigil of worship) of an ignorant person. In the great work of Hadrat Imaam Ghazaalee, Rahmatullaah ‘Alaih, “Keemiyaa S’aadat” he writes: Two raka’ah nafl salaah of an ‘Aalim is superior to a whole year’s worship of an ignorant person. May Allaah guide us all to the knowledge of His wonderful Deen and the taufeeq to encourage and motivate our children to become the future ‘Ulamaa Deen. Aameen. Extracts have been taken from “Faidaan e Sunnah” by Hadrat Maulaanaa Ilyaas Qaadree, Mudda Zilluhoo.

VIRTUES OF THE SUNNAH

Sunnah and Aadaab of eating

My beloved readers, food is the most wonderful gift from Allaah Ar Razzaaq, the Great Sustainer. All original food is pure and uncontaminated. Please consider this jewels of my eyes: all human beings eat food and they get their satisfaction from it. A good follower of the beloved of Allaah  when he eats his food, according the Sunnah of theRasoolallaah in addition to the physical satisfaction, also receives wonderful rewards for his ‘Ibaadah in the Hereafter as well as barakah (blessings) from the Great Lord of Mercy in this world also! What amazing good fortune that consuming food can become an ‘Ibaadah and rewards given for it! I am sure you will never allow all the blessings in this world and the abundant rewards in the next for eating like the Rasoolallaah , slip by you, would you ?

Hadrat ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Abbaas  has narrated that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: To perform wudoo before and after eating food removes destitution and it is among the Sunnah of (all) the Messengers of Allaah ‘Alaihimis Salaam. At Tabaraanee.

Hadrat Anas  has narrated that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: The one who would like that Allaah should increase good in his house, should perform wudoo when the food is served and when it is removed (meaning wash hands and face). Ibn Maajah.

What is the wudoo of eating food?:

To wash both hands up to the wrists, the front part of the face and clean the mouth, before eating. This is the Sunnah.

This should be done after finishing eating. However it is not necessary to wash the front part of the face after eating.

Hadrat ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar has narrated that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: Gather together and eat. Do not eat separately as the barakah is with the jamaa’ah. Ibn Maajah.

The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad  has said: Allaah likes it best when He sees His slave sitting around the maidah (the cloth on which food is served and eaten) with his wife and children and eating. Because when every one is gathered around the maidah, Allaah looks at them with Eyes of Mercy and before they separate, forgives them. Nuzhatul Majaalis.

Hadrat Sayyidinaa Hudzaifah  narrates that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad has said: The food on which “Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem ” is not recited (before starting to eat), that food becomes halaal for the shaitaan (he joins and eats). Muslim.

Hadrat Sayyidinaa Aboo Ayyoob Ansaaree  has narrated: We were present in the blessed company of the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad . Food was served. In the beginning we found that we had never seen as much barakah ever in any other food. However we saw at the end much lack of it. We respectfully asked : O Rasoolallaah () why did this happen? He () replied: All of us recited “Bismillaah” when we were

(starting) eating. Then one person sat down to eat without saying “Bismillaah” and the shaitaan ate with him. Sharahus Sunnah.

Hadrat Aaishah Siddeeqah  has narrated that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad  said: When a person is eating food, he should recite the name of Allaah i.e. say Bismillaah and if he forgets to say it in the beginning, then he should say like this: Bismillaahi Awwaluhoo wa Aakhirahoo. At Tirmidzee.

Hadrat Umaiyyah bin Makhshee  narrates that a person was eating his food without having said Bismillaah. When he had nearly finished and only one morsel was left, he said Bismillaahi Awwaluhoo wa Aakhirahoo. The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad smiled and said: The shaitaan was eating with him and when he pronounced the name of Allaah  he (the shaitaan) vomited whatever was in his stomach. Aboo Dawood.

The beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad  has said: When you sit down to eat, take your shoes off, there is more comfort for your feet and indeed this is a good Sunnah. Daarimee.

Hadrat Sayyidinaa ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar  has narrated that the beloved of Allaah Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad  has said: No one should either eat his food nor drink with his left hand. Eating and drinking with the left hand is the way of the shaitaan. Muslim Shareef.

Hadrat ‘Umar bin Abee Salamah  has narrated: I was a child and under the care of the Rasoolallaah .

When eating I used to put my hands in the plate every where. He  said: Recite Bismillaah, eat with your right hand

and eat from that part of the plate which is close to you. Bukhaaree and Muslim.

Hadrat Ibn ‘Abbaas  narrates that it is the saying of the Rasoolallaah : Eat with three fingers as this is the Sunnah and do not eat with five fingers as that is the way of the ‘Araab (the uncouth). Hakeem.

SAYYIDINAA ABARRUN NAAS” The most righteous of all human beings

Hadrat Anas  has narrated that the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad  went to the dwelling of Hadrat S’ad bin ‘Ibaadah  and sought his permission to enter and greeted by saying: Assalaamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullaah. Hadrat S’ad  responded by saying: Wa’laikassalaam wa Rahmatullaah, which the

Rasoolallaah did not hear and eventually he  greeted (the same way) three times and Hadrat

S’ad  also responded three times and the Rasoolallaah  did not hear it. He  returned and Hadrat S’ad  followed him and respectfully said: O Messenger of Allaah  may my mother and father be sacrificed for you, as many times as you had greeted me with salaam, I heard it and responded also but I failed to make you hear; it is my desire to accept your salaam in profusion and receive your blessings. He  took the Rasoolallaah  to his home and served him with a mixture of small and large raisins. The Holy Messenger of Allaah,  ate the raisins. When he had finished eating he said: Your food has been eaten by righteous people and the angels have sent durood upon you and people who were fasting did iftaar (broke their fast ) at your place. Masnad Imaam Ahmad Hanbal.

He  is the most learned because those beautiful qualities of excellent character and truthfulness have been consummated within him  which are not found in any other human being.

Hadrat ‘Aaishah Siddeeqah  has said: I have heard the Rasoolallaah  say that Hadrat Hissaan reprimanded the kuffaar well and punished them well and chastised them well. Hadrat Hissaan said: O you opposers, you have insulted Hadrat Muhammad  and I responded to it and there is retribution for it with Allaah . You have insulted Hadrat Muhammad  who is the righteous and pious Messenger of Allaah  whose blessed habit is to fulfill his promises; may the honor of my mother and father and my honor be sacrificed for the honor of Hadrat Muhammad . Saheeh Muslim. To be continued InshaAllaah Ta’alaa.

VIRTUES OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF “ASMAA UL HUSNAA” (THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NAMES)

Extracts from the Book “The Most Beautiful Names”

AR-RAHMAN

compiled by Hadrat Shaikh Tosun Bayrak al- Jerrahi al-Halveti

He is the one who wills mercy and good for all creation, at all times, without any distinction between the good and the bad, the faithful and the rebel, the beloved and the hated. He pours upon all creation infinite bounties. The proof is in the Quraan: wa rahmati wasi’at kulli shay’in -”My Mercy covers everything” (7:156)

The ones who know have interpreted the meaning of Rahman as the will of the total good of Allah, iradat al-khayr, and say that Rahman, like Allaah, is a proper name of the Creator, and cannot be attributed to others. The meaning of this mercy is a fineness of feeling, a pain and concern felt when one knows that someone is in distress. It begins with this pain, whose pressure moves us to help the one in distress. But the feeling of mercy and pity is not sufficient. Real compassion is in force when one is able to alleviate the pain and distress which the pitied one is suffering. Allaah is beyond all these, yet He opted for compassion rather than punishment before He created creation. He has created all creation with His mercy. Everything which has come to be since the beginning is blessed with mercy. He has created all creation, including His supreme creation, man, without defect and pure. He has blessed His creation with infinite bounty. In His mercy, He has shown the dangers of loss and perdition. He has given man and only man the freedom of choice between good and bad.

Find in yourself the light of Rahman by using your freedom of choice for the good of yourself and of others. Feel the pain of the misguided one as well as the unfortunate one, not with condemnation, but with pity and assistance.

Aboo Hurairah  reports the Messenger of Allaah as saying, “Allaah Most High has one hundred portions of mercy. He has sent only one portion upon the universe and divided it among all His creation. The feeling of mercy and compassion that His creatures feel among themselves is out of that share. The other 99 portions He has saved for the Day of Last Judgment when He will bestow them upon the believers.”

Hadrat Aboo Amaamah has said: I have heard the beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Sayyidinaa wa Maulaanaa Muhammad say: The person who would go to his bed in a state of wudoo and keep doing the dzikr of Allaah till such time as he falls asleep and during the night when he turns over his side, he seeks goodness of the Deen and the world, then Allaah bestows upon him goodness of the Deen and the world. Imaam Nawawee Rahmatullaah ‘Alaih in his book “Kitaab ul Azkaar” from the narration of Ibn Sunnee

Arena of Practice

Any one who is going to abandon any practice after a few days should never start it. This is the arena of men not a child’s play. And once having entered the arena, to retreat is not the way of men, nor does it befit the honor of manliness. Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.
Menonce they make a resolution they always fulfill it. They never go back on their word. They will give their life but will not go back on their word. Men once they make a promise always honor it; they never do anything against their promises.Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.
Men when they plant their feet in any arena, they never turn back.Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.
Men when they enter an arena with determination, become invincible; they get killed but do not even think of retreating. Men never leave the arena. The arena is the place of trial. And men prove successful in the trial of the arena. Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.

Men are never defeated in the arena. They put their lives on the line, but never leave the arena. Yaa Hayyu YaaQayyoom.
The full Grace of Allaah is with the men. And men never have feelings of hopelessness in the arena. Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.
Men put their lives on line when they enter the arena. They are not afraid to die. Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.
Men when they make a determination to do something, they accomplish it. They never fail. Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.
(At this time and in this state), the will of man indeed becomes the Will ofAllaah . Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.
Men even if they lose do not lose their courage. And no defeat can defeat man. Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.

Men put on the garland of loss and rise up again and swell up again and never give up their struggle; they keep it up forever till victory kisses their feet! Yaa Hayyu Yaa Qayyoom.

Dear Allaah, bestow Your Choicest Blessings upon our Master Muhammad and upon his extended family and his progeny according to the number of all things known to You. I seek the forgiveness of the One but for whom there is no God, The Truly and Perfectly Alive and The Self Sustained and I turn to Him with repentance. O The Truly and Perfectly Alive O The Self Sustained

This is the Salaatunnabi (Durood) recited by Hadrat Sayyidinaa UWAIS QARNEE, and the inherited Durood Shareef of the Honorable chain of Quadariyyah; Mujaddidiyyah; Ghafooriyyah; Raheemiyyah; Kareemiyyah and Ameeriyyah.
It is highly recommended that those who seek the love and closeness to the Beloved of Allaah, Hadrat Muhammad make it mandatory upon themselves to recite this Durood Shareef according to their capacity and the time they have available. For instance at least 11 times after each Salaat. It should be recited more frequently after Ishaa, Tahajjud and Fajr. 100,300,500 times or even more. Remember though, once the frequency is fixed, be steadfast upon it!
